How could I benefit from counseling?
People pursue counseling and therapy for a variety of reasons. Some come needing to process or discuss a specific issue, for example a divorce or feelings of depression and anxiety. Others come because they are feeling stuck and don't know how to move forward on their own. It can be extremely beneficial to have an outsider's perspective on what is happening in your world and can bring comfort when someone can speak to or normalize what you are experiencing.
Although our past wounds will always be a reminder of where we have been, they do not have to define how we live or who we become. We believe there is freedom found in bringing light to our darkness. Each counseling session moves towards this place.
What types of counseling do you provide?
Individual Therapy for all ages to address emotional, developmental, and behavioral issues and concerns, including play therapy for children.
Couples and Family Therapy to improve communication and help generate cohesion among family members, while providing a safe space to have dialogue
Group Therapy to support clients emotionally and to help improve social skills
What about fees? Do you take insurance?
Revere Counseling and Wellness does not currently accept insurance, but we are happy to provide you with a “superbill” to submit to your insurance for receiving “Out of Network” benefits; I CANNOT guarantee reimbursement from your insurance. Our clinicians’ fees differ based off of experience and expertise.

What about working with minors? Or divorced families?
MINORS If you are a minor, your parents may be legally entitled to some information about your therapy. I will discuss with you and your parents what information is appropriate for them to receive and which issues are more appropriately kept confidential.
If the minor child is named in any custody agreement or court order:
1. We will need a copy (digital or paper) of the most recent decree documenting your right to seek counseling for the child(ren) before we can proceed with the child’s appointment.
2. We will not be able to schedule an individual appointment until we have the most recent copy of any custody agreement.
3. We will need you to provide Revere Counseling and Wellness with the most recent contact information for any adult named in the minor child’s custody document.
4. We will seek to contact and obtain consent from the other adults involved (if applicable), or unless a judge directs otherwise.
**Texas law and ethics requires all licensed counselors to make a good faith effort to contact all adults named in a minor child’s custody documents, seek consent for counseling, and offer the opportunity to participate as therapeutically appropriate to all adults, unless a judge directs otherwise. You may have some serious concerns about this requirement and we are sympathetic to your concerns. In conflictual situations, our ethical commitment is to seek and promote the well-being and emotional health of the minor client. Any communication and feedback with adults involved are for the benefit of the minor child client.
What about the Good Faith Estimate?
Under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, health care providers and health care facilities are required to inform individuals who are not enrolled in a plan or coverage or a Federal health care program, or not seeking to file a claim with their plan or coverage both orally and in writing of their ability, upon request or at the time of scheduling health care items and services, to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” of expected charges.
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost
Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises
What is your cancelation policy?
We have a 48 hour (2 day) cancellation policy. If the appointment is not cancelled and the client does not show up, the client will be charged the full fee for that appointment. The only time this fee will be waived is in the event of serious or contagious illness or emergency.
What is play therapy?
Play therapy is an established and recognized method of helping children to express themselves through the use of play and toys. Children are encouraged to play in an environment that is safe and understanding. They are given access to a wide variety of toys to encourage the expression of emotional concerns.
Why play therapy for children?
Children cannot communicate with words as adults do. The method children use to release their emotions and sort out their experiences is through play. Through play children can recreate the experiences that are a part of their anger, fears, sadness, or frustrations. They can create therapeutic play at their own developmental level and recreate emotionally stressful events with the care and support of their therapist and in a safe environment.
How can play therapy help my child?
Through play therapy children can change the way they see and react to events that happen in their world. When children recreate their frustrations or disappointments and then are able to change the way they experience these events through play, they begin to enjoy more of their play and this translates to them enjoying and feeling more comfortable with life events.
Play Therapy is an evidence-based treatment approach for children as young as 1 year old that helps to identify and resolve children’s problems. Play therapists recognize play as a child’s first language and a safe avenue for children to express thoughts and feelings that would otherwise remain hidden. Therefore, the play therapy process builds on the child’s normal communication level by creating activities and an environment for children to communicate in a safe, comfortable, and playful manner.
At its core, play therapy is a powerful and effective tool that gives children a voice and allows them to make sense of their world. Engagement in this type of therapy has multiple benefits including resolution of distress, empowerment of the child, enhanced self-esteem, improved social skills, and behavior modification.

Can EMDR be used with children?
Yes! There are variations that are used, for example, drawing or using a sand tray, but research has shown EMDR to also work with children. In my practice, I use EMDR with clients as young as three years old.
Where have I heard of EMDR?
In 2016, HONY (Humans of New York) featured several photos that described a veteran's journey to healing with EMDR from PTSD. To see these photos and read more about his story, please visit: www.humansofnewyork.com.
